soundinstallation 2008
a room is recorded and simultaneously replayed through plumbings (pipes) of div diameter and lenght.
the resonation of the pipes gently fill the room.
material :
5 plumbings (pipes of various lenght and diameter)
1 microphone
1 amplifier
4 loudpeakers within the plumbings
cables & strings

through pipes works with the sound of the (empty) room, creating a certain tension or feeling, focusing on sounds from outside. the room is recorded through a pipe and gets directly played back through other pipes with integreted loudspeakers. the installation works on a very low level, people have to listen deep and should listen “in- side” the pipes. but they can only listen inside with one of their ears - by doing so they hear the “real room” with one and the “filtered (through pipes) room” with the other. this causes an unusaul state of listening, and the unspectacular sounds of the room, or those that happen to enter from outside, be- come interesting for the listener. the pipes are suspended from the ceiling, allowing the listener to turn them and thereby create different feedback-frequencies. the feedbacks depend not only on the position of the pipes, but also on the level and frequency spektrum of the sound entering the empty room.
